I studied for a university credit-rated Professional Diploma with the UX Design institute between July 2020 and March 2021.
I have learned that UX is problem solving discipline, it’s about understanding the users problems and designing software that helps solve those problems.
Personally I found UX Design fascinating, which hopefully shows in my work- see my Fly UX case study. I am very proud of my 89% overall pass mark. And, chose to move immediately on to study UI Visual Design, which I hope will compliment my art direction skills.
Skills I have learned in this process:
A host of new tools like Miro, Loom, Adobe XD, Slack & Figma
How to recruit and manage participants for usability tests
How to write a script and host a usability test
Note-taking, picking out key insights observed
How to look at a problem purely from users point of view, and not to allow any of my bias opinions in
Taking unstructured data, and making in structured by analysing it
Pen & paper- sketching is an important step in the design process
Creating an interactive working medium-fidelity prototype
How to annotate the wireframe in order to create an effective handover document for the developers
Test, test, test.
And always design with the user in mind
